The Local Culture

The earliest signs of Human life in the area date back to the Saqquq Community (around 2.500 years B.C.). Also, the area is known for the Dorset-culture (500-1200) and the Thule-culture (1400). In the 18’th century the Europeans arrived, and the Thule culture disappeared.

Today, the demography is a mixture of Inuit (descendants from the Thule Community) and Danes who settled in the area in the early 18’th century.
